Data transmission and management

Transmitting data from sensors deployed in the field to servers in near real-time is one of the major challenges of the TERRA FORMA project. This objective relies on the latest Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and innovations developed within our research laboratories. These innovations focus in particular on autonomy, energy harvesting, the integration of embedded data processing capabilities (including artificial intelligence), and network interoperability.

The design of the communication and data management infrastructure within the TERRA FORMA project is structured around three main components :

  • An in-situ communication infrastructure (e.g., LoRaWAN protocol, satellite IoT, etc.) ;
  • A centralized, sector-based, multi-protocol platform with first-level data processing ;
  • A federation of platforms dedicated to managing the data flow in the cloud (data lake ; collection/pre-processing/publication and distribution).
