Science With and For Society

How can knowledge about environmental transformations be disseminated and enriched through instrumental systems ? What issues should be addressed with stakeholders to meet local territorial challenges ? How can scientific infrastructures be adapted to foster participation, co-construction, and collective action ?

By embedding the development of instruments (next-generation sensors) and the design of data/digital service infrastructures within a Science With and For Society (SWAFS) approach, TERRA FORMA aims to respond not only to the needs of scientific teams (observatories, RZA, etc.), but also to challenges that directly involve a wide range of non-academic actors. This perspective allows for the integration of a social dynamic into the technical and scientific infrastructure, in support of more resilient and sustainable socio-ecosystem trajectories.

Within this framework, several lines of action are being pursued, ranging from science outreach and mediation projects developed in partnership with higher education, to ambitious participatory science and research programs. Coordinated within TERRA FORMA’s Work Package 4 (WP4), these initiatives rely on strong interdisciplinarity between the social sciences and humanities (political science, information and communication sciences, sociology, cognitive science, design/semiotics, etc.) and environmental sciences.
